Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey embodies all the characteristics that make Hard Truths’ flavored spirits so wonderful.
It’s made with a premium base that only gets better and more tempting with the addition of rich and robust flavors. It’s sweet, but not too sweet, and it finishes clean and smooth.
You can drink it by itself. You can mix it with other Hard Truths. You can craft incredible cocktails with it.
Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey is nuanced, delightful, and fun.
But, does it live up to the magic that is peanut butter?
When our Master Distiller Bryan Smith and his team started crafting peanut butter whiskey, I was dubious.
Of course, I knew Bryan would make something with amazing flavor. I knew whatever we produced would be a premium spirit that defies others in its category. I also LOVE peanut butter. It is a constant, daily staple in my diet — creamy or crunchy, on toast or a banana, as an oatmeal topping or milkshake mix-in.
I. Love. Peanut butter.
But the notion of peanut butter whiskey gave me pause. I’d had other peanut butter whiskeys, and I wasn’t sure how to cocktail with them. They, and the prospect of a Hard Truth version, confounded me.
Ready for the challenge, though, I set out to the Hard Truth bar laboratory and got to mixing.
You can’t go wrong with the classics.
Combinations that immediately popped into my head — peanut butter and jelly, peanut butter and chocolate, peanut butter and banana, peanut butter and bacon, peanut butter and raisins on celery, peanut butter on a spoon…
The list went on for ages.
As I started to work with the sample whiskey Bryan gave me, the balance of sweet to savory became my focus.
Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey is a sweet and rich spirit with a superb balance of roasty aromas and salty taste. I mean, it tastes like legit peanut butter.
Finding fruit and berry liquors to mix with it was a delight.
I had fun getting adventurous with some of the savory ingredients like bacon and dark chocolate.
And, after a few fun rounds of experimentation, we’d found a collection of truly delicious cocktails.
Some have wonderful spicy kicks, others dance in between sweet and savory.
All of them ended up in the absolutely delectable category.
